5FootWay.Inn Project Boat Quay

Sunday, March 25, 2018

Located in the in the center of the city, where most of the attractions and public transportation are within walking distance, 5FootWay.Inn Project Boat Quay would probably be the best hostel to stay in. Being in Singapore for the second time around and trying out 5FootWay.Inn made my visit worth while since it was so convenient and it was strategically located.

Nearing ourselves to the hostel, the surrounding has already won my heart. The place has view of the river upfront, and you can see Singapore's Iconic building from the hostel's location! Upon entering the building, we went into a stairwell that was leading up to the second floor, where the reception area was. Going up the staircase was quite a challenge since I was bringing my luggage and there were no elevators. But again, it was just a small challenge.
Upon reaching the end of the stairway, you'll notice that the landing has a lot of small stairways and hallways leading to different areas. I won't lie, at first it kinda looks like a maze but as long as you read the signs, you won't get lost. I was quite surprised with the lobby, since most of the hostels I've stayed in didn't have one or just had a few chairs to sit on.

The lobby at the hostel was quite cozy. It has 2 couches facing each other, a clerestory above which allows daylight to come through. There were also computer stations at the sides for guests to use. There were also a selection of maps for the guests at the reception area. We were greeted with a warm welcome by the receptionist and the check-in process didn't take that long (check in time is at 3pm). If you arrive earlier than your check in time and want to explore the city, no need to worry about your bags because you can leave it at their package counter before you check in.
Our room was the Standard Triple Loft Private Room Non-Ensuite and it was good for 3 people. Entering our room did bring a smile to my face even though it was simple. The interior was charming because of the teal color on the wall and the touch of wood at the lower bunk bed. Both levels of bed spaces were provided a small storage, a light, and a universal outlet. We were also provided with towels as well. After settling in, Jesse and I decided to tour around the hostel.
First up is the toilet. Toilets are separated for both male and female, as well as the shower areas. The cleanliness of the toilet was good. Shampoo/body wash was also provided inside the shower.

Next, we went exploring to the common area. The room is of industrial contemporary interior, and walls of the room was filled with artworks made from local artists. Inside the room, you can find spaces for the TV area, a place for ironing clothes (this is a big plus because I usually want to iron my clothes), a working space, dining space, and a small kitchen. The room was well lit since the exterior part of the room was in folding doors and there was a clerestory above it, so you not only get a natural light coming in, but also a great view of the outside. The common area has the best view indeed, since you can see the view of the river and also Singapore's skyline.

At day time the hostel is so quiet and peaceful, but as the night comes, the surrounding becomes alive and festive since there are a lot of restaurants and bars nearby.
There's free breakfast for the guests which starts from 7:00 am to 10:30 am. There was cereal, milk, coffee, bread, and different condiments to choose from. Everything is self service, which means you also have to wash your dishes afterwards.
Jesse and I stayed there for 3 days, and overall we were very pleased and happy with our stay. This is also by far the best hostel I've ever stayed to date (I've been to 6 hostels), considering the location and comfort. If you're on a budget and want to explore the city at a low cost, you should consider this hostel since the location is really good and it surely won't hurt your pockets.
